Since December 2005, the Municipality of Trikala offers its residents free low speed wireless internet connection. As of 2007, around 90% of the total area of Trikala has access The city of Trikala stands as the most innovative and thorough case of government funded wi-fi internet access in Greece. Only few other European cities offer such a service for free, placing Trikala amongst the European leaders in free wi-fi.
