Wireless community Networks - What they are and why we suppport them. E-mail

A community network is usually a non-profit organisation with the purpose of development, use and promotion of wireless networking technologies in it's region. 
 
Althought it is not necessary that a community network will offer users an internet connection (to the world wide web) it is common practice. Community networks are a little bit like the global internet only on a smaller, local scale. The services they offer depend on their users intentions and may often resemble those found on the world wide web.
 
The physical range of a community network may begin from a few blocks and end up covering an entire city.There are many types of community networks in the worl, but for the purposes of free-wifi.gr we will highlight two kinds: Networks of users and local government.
 
Networks of users
 
Made up of independant members with a passion for technology, most of whom manage and run the network.
 
Local government networks 
 
The organising force behind these community networks is a public institution (such as a city or regional gov.), and they are publicly funded.

 

Free-wifi.gr is a firm supporter of all open community networks.

Community networks and it's people inspire cooperation, initiative, social  service  and  creativity. Free-wifi.gr aims to follow in their footsteps, sailing on the same frequencies. We call on those interested to support their local community networks and if there are none in existence... then it's time to get creative!
 
For independant community networks, as well as, publicly funded local government networks, all our services are offered absolutely free of charge.
